Dexter Morgan: I lived in the dark for a long time
His son, David Zayas Jr., stands in for his father in some shots, since they look remarkably similar. Visible throughout the first season, Dexter has a large scar on his left side. Later in season two, the scar moved to his right side, leaving his left side without a mark.

True to Jeff Lindsay’s books
The visual contrast between the darkness of Dexter’s secret life and the glamour of Miami adds an almost surreal feel to the whole thing. The character development is spot on, slowly unpacking the background so you can see the development of Dexter’s sociopathic personality and his confusion about human behavior compared to his own. Dexter is an actor in his own life; his relationships with his coworkers and his personal life are well-represented in video media.
The fact that he is an expert in blood spatter
It’s a dark job, but set in the strange world of Miami life it’s almost believable. The creators of this series should also look to Andrew Vachss’s books.
